Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you for joining me on my new website. I am very excited about my plans to return to the Oregon Senate for a second term in 2009. Representing coastal Senate District 5 has been both a rewarding and challenging experience that I continue to appreciate.
My district is made up of small businesses and great communities with tremendous civic pride who have had serious economic struggles.
We have never fully recovered from the loss of natural resource based jobs or the dramatic changes brought about by the reduction of that revenue source.
As good stewards of the environment we are sometimes troubled by the sense that we are misjudged in our efforts to provide good jobs that would keep our young people in their favored homeĀ towns. But one thing is certain. We can continue to have livable, safe coastal cities and towns where families chose to to live and work and thousands love to visit if we strategically focus on the protection of our economy, research, patience, common sense and a strong spirit of unity.
Our schools can include music, the arts, and school nurses. Families can afford health insurance. Our beaches can be free of plastic bottles and our fishing industry can remain vibrant and successful.
But we must be willing to stand firm in our leadership of local control of our future with a persuasive reasonable voice in government that is looking out for you.
We may differ in the details but my experience tells me that we speak clearly with one voice when it comes to our desire for a quality of life that equals, in some measure, the coastal beauty that surround us.
Thank you for the past four years. I ask you to join my voice in the next four as together, we work to "set the pace" for the future of the Oregon Coast and those who live here.
Sincerely,
Joanne
